U16s at Elk Mountain this past weekend

The U16s finally got their first races in at Elk this past weekend.  Friday was a make-up GS race from the canceled Tussey weekend.
Then SL on Saturday and another GS on Sunday for their Series 3 & 4 races.  It was warm and sunny which made for great viewing and somewhat treacherous skiing.

The conditions and the hard-charging nature of these JF kids yielded many DNFs.  No tears here though, instead each day they took group “DNF-ers” pics for their records.

Our speed queen, Devon, once again came home with the hardware – a Bronze in Friday’s GS.  She also finished 5th in SL and 6th in GS on Sunday.  Our top men’s finisher was Mark who finished 8th and 9th in the GS races.  He also had the 3rd fastest first SL run before an unfortunate DNF on run 2.

To round out the highlights for the women, Maddie finished top 20 on Friday (GS), 10th on Saturday (SL), and had a top 15 run on Sunday (GS).  Teagan had top 20 finishes all three days, and Evelyn had a top 20 finish on Friday.

And for the men, Justice had two top 20 finishes and a top 20 run on Friday.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the JFBB U16 team got the GOLD medal for most fun had on the mountain!  They were singing and dancing every morning in the lodge, and at the start up top.  There was constant laughter and cheering for each other and racers from other mountains.  They are such a tight group of amazing kids who make it fun no matter what.
