JFBB U14s Show Super Slalom Skills on Super Bowl Sunday!

The conclusion of the U14 regular race season occurred on Sunday, 2/9, at Camelback with the Rob Corchnoy Memorial Slalom race. The fresh snow that fell the previous night made for a sugary topcoat and created ruts and bumps throughout the day. However, our JFBB skiers handled the lengthy course with expert skills. Both runs had challenging offsets that really made the skiers think and test their abilities.

After Run 1, 9 girls and 10 boys made the flip. Mackenzie (2nd), Vera (3rd), Holly and Gabby were tied (7th), Sophia (9th) Lizzie (13th), Reagan (23rd) Olivia (25th) and Gabby G (29th) , Seiji (3rd), Jack (5th), Noah (6th), Lucca (7th), Will (8th), David (16th), Evan (20th), Julien (23rd), Mason (26th), and Emraan (30th).

Vera, determined and focused, had a beautiful second run in very tough conditions. She moved up a spot and captured a 2nd place podium. Mackenzie slipped out twice and landed a 4th place run but was able to secure 3rd place overall. Holly had a fantastic run and broke the tie and moved into 6th. Gabby B (7th), Lizzie (10th), Reagan (19th), Olivia (23rd) and Zoe (29th) rounded out the top 30.

Our JFBB boys landed 7 of the top 10 overall spots after run 2. Seiji was able to secure his second podium of the weekend with the 2nd fastest run 2. He moved up a spot for 2nd place. Jack remained steady and consistent to take the 4th place spot. After extremely fast hiking in the first run, David had a 4th place run 2 and moved up 11 spots to 5th. Lucca, Noah, Will, finished in 6th, 7th, 8th respectively. AJ after hiking in run 1 and not making the flip, had a 5th place time that moved him up to 10th. Evan came in 16th, Emraan (20th), Mason (27th) and Julien (29th).

Recognition goes out to Erin who popped out of her ski and the end of run 1, she did not give up and hiked and skied through the finish on one ski . Her determination was admirable!

A heartfelt gratitude goes out to Mama Cook for running a great race and getting us out quickly to watch the Eagles annihilate the Chiefs! Go Birds!

Points for State Championships were calculated quickly, and the following racers were selected to represent the Eastern Region at the PARA post season race. Championships will be at Seven Springs Mountain Resort on Feb 22&23.  Congrats to our JFBB racers for securing 13 of the 23 spots! They will compete against the other state qualifiers from Northeastern, Central, and Western Regions.
