U12s Headed I80 East for a Camelback GS

The most anticipated event of the weekend commenced on Saturday as the U12 racers got over the hump of their season at Camelback as they traded their slalom skis for GS.

The girls started faster than the Eagles over KC and showed that they embody just as much team spirit by sticking as a pack after the first run. When the snow settled, 8 racers made the flip with 5 racers being within .56 seconds of each other on a gnarly labyrinth of a course.

Showing much resilience, the racers threw down on Run 2. Riley P. was the top racer from JFBB, finishing fourth overall with the third fastest Run 2. Josetta M. had the fourth fastest Run 2, earning her 10th place. Kylee G., Hope H., and Grace C. finished 13-14-15. Right on their heels were Cassidy M. in 18th, Gabby W. in 20th, and Greta G. in 22nd. Anna R., Eva R., Delia V., and Maahi J. also showed great consistency in their two runs on Pocono Raceway.

Leading the boys was “Show Me the Podium” Shota O. who finished in second overall and has been on the podium in all three races this season.

Sawyer D. continued his consistent campaign with a 5th place overall finish. He has been in the top 5 in all three races this season. Not to be outdone, Kenji G. finished 6th, just a tenth of a second behind Sawyer. Preston D. had a tremendous Run 2 to move from 10th after Run 1 to 8th overall. Andrei T. had a gutsy performance to finish in 10th overall.

The JFBB boys had a total of 9 racers make the flip (some for the first time) adding Evan S., Julian Q., Kaydin W. and George S. to the mix. Evan would finish 20th overall, Julian 21st, Geroge 28th, and Kaydin 34th. Kayus A. was not far behind in 36th and Sammy V. in 41st.

Kellan B., Elliot F. and Keegan R. embodied the “Ski Fast and Take Chances” mantra by absolutely sending it. Unfortunately, they all recorded a DNF on one run. Kellan rebounded well with the 6th fastest time in Run 2.

The U10s will join the U12s next Sunday at Blue Mountain for the final race of the year and the last chance for U12s to earn points to qualify for the State Championship at Roundtop Mountain Feb. 22-23.
