Racing above the Electric City – U12/U10s First Race of the Season

With many racers participating in their first ever race, the anticipation was intense at Montage Mountain this weekend as the U12/U10 girls and boys took to the slopes above the Electric City.

A total of 38 racers went through the start house from JFBB, with U10 female Ella C. the first racer on course to spark the action under clear skies and crisp temperatures—a departure from the rain, sleet and snow of the previous year.

The difficult starting position had little effect on Ella as she found herself on the podium with a second-place overall finish. Kenzie B. joined her on the podium in third place followed closely by Estelle K. in 4th place and Piper Davis in 5th. Yasmine S. had a solid run 1, but she missed gate 21 in run 2.

U12 Female Josetta M. was the fastest female racer of the day from JFBB with a total time of 1:36.75 earning her 8th overall. In a show of consistency, five of the next six places all went to JFBB racers with Kylee G. in 9th place, Grace C. in 10th, Riley P. in 11th, Hope H. in 13th, and Gabriella W. in 14th.

Greta G. came in 20th place and Eva R. finished 29th in her first ever race. Anna R. and Cassidy M. finished 32nd and 33rd respectively. Cassidy and Riley P. lived up to the team motto of “ski fast and take chances” in run 1. Unfortunately, they both missed a gate and had to do some hiking. Both stormed back in run 2 with Cassidy posting the fourth fastest time and Riley charging through the course to post the fastest run 2 time.

The U10 boys showed they will be a force to be reckoned with as James D. took the top spot in the U10 division and was 14th overall for U10 AND U12 boys.

In his first ever race, Sullivan D. took third in the U10 boys division and 20th overall in the race.

Owen de V., John S., Kyle R., Yash S., Noah K. and Koray B. all charged hard.

Amped up from the girls’ and U10 boys’ performances, the U12 boys showed lightning of their own. Six of the top 11 overall places went to JFBB boys. Shota O. led all competitors with the fastest runs of the day, earning him the overall gold for his 1:23.02 day of work. Andrei T., Sawyer D., Kenji G., Julian Q., were 3 through 6 with Preston D.

U12 racers Kayus A., Kayden W., Geroge S., Evan S., Keegan R., Leo C., Sammy van der T., and Kellan B. also competed with grit and determination.

Elliot F. was a dynamo in run 2. After a fall and a missed gate in run 1, he motored back to post the third fastest time in run 2.

The U12 racers head to Elk next weekend for the second slalom race of the year.
