U14s Close Out Qualifiers with Strong Showing at Elk Mountain

  • by

The JFBBRT U14s wrapped up their Eastern Region Qualifier season on Saturday, February 8th, at the Steppacher Founders GS at Elk Mountain Ski Resort. And yes, you guessed it—another frigidly cold and windy day of racing. If there’s been a theme to this season, it’s that our racers know how to battle the elements as well as they battle the course.

Fast, Fun, and Efficient

Despite the brutal temperatures, the conditions were actually ideal for racing. The snow was dry and grippy, and Elk’s coaches set a fast, fun GS course on the black diamond Slalom trail—a steep, fast run that challenged every racer. Because it was so cold and the snow held up beautifully, the race organizers made the smart decision to keep the same course for Run 2. This eliminated the need for a second inspection and sped up the race considerably. Thanks to Elk Mountain for running an efficient and enjoyable race day—much appreciated when you’re trying to minimize time standing still in the freezing wind!

Run 1: JFBBRT Dominates

After the first run, JFBBRT absolutely lit up the scoreboard. Nine girls made the flip, led by Mackenzie in 1st place, followed by Erin in 2nd, Gabby B. in 4th, Josetta in 6th, Grace in 9th, Riley in 13th, Cassidy in 24th, Greta in 25th, and Kylee in 28th.

The boys were equally impressive with nine in the top 30. Noah grabbed 1st place after Run 1, with Jack in 4th, Emraan in 5th, Sawyer in 8th, Kellan in 9th, Julian in 12th, Jake in 19th, Elliott in 20th, and George in 24th. Eighteen racers in the flip—that’s how you close out a qualifier season.

Podium Power

When the dust settled after two runs, JFBBRT claimed two more podium spots. Gabby B. secured 2nd place overall for the girls, continuing her stellar season. For the boys, Jack battled his way to 2nd place overall, proving once again that consistency pays off in GS racing.

Top 10 Performances

Beyond the podium, JFBBRT had plenty of racers crack the top 10 in the overall standings. For the girls: Erin finished 4th overall, Riley came in 7th overall, and Josetta claimed 10th overall. For the boys: Sawyer grabbed 5th overall, Kellan finished 8th overall, and Julian secured 9th overall. Six racers in the top 10—absolutely dominant.
